My review of The River Was Waiting is live on Reedsy Discovery.
“Secrets can tear holes in our hearts." A triumph depicting a troubled woman's struggles with serious issues that still impact women today.

The River Was Waiting doesn’t hesitate to drop into the action as Mabel Gorne attempts to escape New England after being sexually assaulted by a man she trusted.
Young, wealthy women from Mabel’s abandoned college try to make sense of the death of three people connected to Mabel by comparing them to books and movies. Their unwillingness to face the reality of death head-on feels realistic, while foreshadowing the book’s examination of varying perspectives of women from different classes.
Full of life and dreams for the future Dee is a foil of sorts and YWCA roommate for quietly introspective Mabel. The likeable pair reminds me of Wednesday and Enid from the television series, Wednesday. The riveting happenstances between Mabel, Dee, and Tiny, a prostitute on break in Central Park, spark thoughtful discourse and bring to light divides between class and race.
